In an disturbing incident, Rakshabandhan, a celebration in which a brother swears to safeguard his sister, was tarnished after a cousin allegedly raped and murdered his little sister hours after she tied Rakhi around his wrist. The distressing news was reported in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya. According to the authorities, after killing the girl, he hung her body from a rope to make it appear like suicide.
According to NDTV, after celebrating Rakshabandhan on Saturday, Surjeet, 33, returned home after drinking heavily. He raped the girl while she was sleeping, then murdered her. According to the authorities, the girl's father was sleeping in the next room and could not hear anything.
The girl's body was discovered hanging the next day.
After the heinous murder, Surjeet began misleading the inquiry. Police were suspicious when he refused to let any other family members answer the questions.
As the police arrived at the murder scene, they were certain it was not a suicide because there were bloodstains in various places. Her body was sent for a post-mortem examination, which confirmed rape.
According to NDTV, Surjeet was arrested and admitted to the crime during interrogation.
