A dramatic scene unfolded at the Rampur district court in Uttar Pradesh on Friday afternoon when a woman physically confronted her husband with slippers after he allegedly pronounced instant triple talaq outside the courtroom. The incident, captured on video, quickly went viral on social media, sparking fresh debates over women's rights and misuse of the practice.
The woman, Asiya, a resident of Bambura village in Rampur’s Khajuria area, had married Ashid Ali of Dheemri village in 2018. The couple shares two daughters. According to Asiya, her marital life had been marred by physical abuse at the hands of her husband and in-laws. Eventually, unable to bear the alleged violence, she moved back to her maternal home with her children.
About five months ago, she filed a maintenance case in family court. On Friday, Asiya arrived at the court with her maternal aunt Reshma for a hearing, while her husband and father-in-law were also present.

Enraged, Asiya grabbed her husband's kurta and began striking him with her slippers. Onlookers watched in shock as the confrontation escalated. Several bystanders filmed the altercation, and the footage soon made its way to social media.
Bystanders eventually intervened to break up the clash. Asiya later submitted a complaint at the Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding an FIR against her husband and father-in-law. The matter is now under investigation.
