Onam is an annual Indian harvest festival, that is celebrated mainly by the Hindu Keralites. The festivities include the famous boat race called Vallamkali, rituals of making floral designs called Pookkalam, performances by men popularly known as Pulikali, dance celebrations, and more.

“The day the Onam exams are over, it is the rush to reach home. Your mother went home with a bag full of snacks and one crore for grandmother... When you run past the staircase, first check whether there is a flower bouquet in the tea room without even ignoring the grandmother waiting on the veranda. This year, the festival is being celebrated from August 20 to August 31. The celebrations of the last three days began on August 29. The annual festival marks the homecoming of King Mahabali. According to the belief, the beloved ruler was sent to the netherworld by Lord Vishnu.
