A four-person small single-engine aircraft sadly crashed in an Illinois rural field on Saturday and killed everyone on board. The accident, which happened at approximately 10:15 AM, occurred near the unincorporated town of Trilla, about 65 miles south of Champaign. Two men and two women died, although they have not been named yet by authorities as they wait for next of kin to be notified.

All Dead Says Coroner Ed Schniers

There were no survivors of the plane crash, according to Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers. The small plane, which was a Cessna C180G, was in flight close to Coles County Memorial Airport in Mattoon when it crashed. FAA officials confirmed the crash debris was scattered along the roadway, which was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the scene.

Investigation Underway

The Illinois State Police have confirmed the investigation into the deadly plane crash is underway. Local authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA are also investigating the cause of the crash. In a release, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker offered his condolences, admitting the "terrible news" and sending his thoughts to the loved ones who were affected by the tragedy.

“Terrible news out of Coles County. My administration is monitoring the situation as we keep those impacted by the plane crash in our thoughts today. Thank you to the first responders who rushed to the scene. Please follow the guidance of officials as they provide assistance.
” Pritzker wrote on social media.

Deadly Week for Small Aircraft

This sad accident is one of a disturbing pattern, since no less than nine individuals have perished in small plane accidents in the last week. The FAA and NTSB have been busy investigating several fatal crashes of small planes in several states. The investigation into the Coles County crash continues with authorities working on retrieving the wreckage and examining flight data to figure out the reason behind the fatal accident. There are expected to be further developments as the probe continues.
