New Delhi: Amid a series of attacks in Bangladesh on Hindus, a fresh report of a mob chase has surfaced on local media. According to reports published in local Bangladeshi media, a 25-year-old Hindu man was chased by a desperate mob, resulting in his death.

As per the media reports, the man identified as Mithun Sarkar, a resident of Bandarpur village, jumped into a canal while trying to escape a mob that was chasing him on suspicion of theft. The latest incident happened in Naogaon district on Tuesday.

No words on theft

The same day, police recovered the body of the deceased man from the canal. However, as of the writing of this article, neither the local administration nor the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government reacted to the incident.

In fact, there was no clarity over whether the Hindu man was involved in any theft or if it was just a case of targeted killing.

Hindu killings in Bangladesh

Notably, violence against the Hindu community has surged tremendously in Bangladesh in recent weeks. The new wave of killings started after the killing of radical youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi in early December— although it has become a new norm since Yunus came into power following Sheikh Hasina’s dramatic exit in August 2024.
