3 Attacks In 4 Days: Indian-Crewed Ship Targeted Near Oman Coast Hours After Deadly US Strike Killed Three Sailors

A commercial tanker with Indian crew members was again targeted near the coast of Oman. This marks the third recent attack on merchant vessels with Indian seafarers. "We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas port of Oman, earlier today. We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details," Embassy of India in Oman wrote on X. Whether the vessel was targeted by a US military strike or another force remains unclear.

3 Indian sailors killed in US attack

The post came around the same time when Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed that three Indian seafarers, who were earlier reported missing on Wednesday after a US military attack on a commercial vessel off the Oman coast, were dead.

India on Wednesday summoned the US charge d'affaires to strongly protest a US military attack on a commercial vessel off the Oman coast that left three of the 24 Indian crew members missing. The attack on commercial vessel Settebello came two days after a Palau-flagged vessel with 24 Indians came under attack of the US Navy as the ship tried to evade the US blockade of Iranian ports.

The US Central Command acknowledged the strike on the vessel, saying it violated the ongoing US blockade of the Iranian ports by attempting to transport oil from Iran. 

Iranian tanker also hit by US near Oman coast

Earlier today, news agency Reuters reported that an Iranian cargo barge was hit by a US projectile in the Gulf of Oman, the Iranian governor of Sirik county said. According to Mehr news agency, The 150-ton cargo barge, owned by locals from Sirik and carrying essential goods from the Omani port of Khasab, was hit about 5 nautical miles off Khasab, the Iranian official said, adding that all five crew members were rescued by passing vessels and taken to Oman.
