Walz, a Democrat, said in a social media post, "I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now."

The Governor said he told the White House the state must lead the investigation. "Let state investigators secure justice. As we process the scene, stay peaceful and give them space. The State has the personnel to keep people safe – federal agents must not obstruct our ability to do so," he said in another post on X.
Sending Soldiers To Minneapolis Would Be Unconstitutional: Mayor
Earlier on Janurary 18, the mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, said sending active duty soldiers into Minnesota to help with an immigration crackdown is a ridiculous and unconstitutional idea. He also urged protesters to remain peaceful so the President won't see a need to send in the US military.
Protests Over Trump's Immigration Policy
Daily protests have been ongoing throughout January since the US Department of Homeland Security ramped up immigration enforcement in the twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul by bringing in more than 2,000 federal officers.
The Trump administration has ordered about 1,500 active-duty soldiers based in Alaska who specialise in operating in arctic conditions to be ready in case of a possible deployment to Minnesota, two defence officials said.
Renee Good's Killing Triggered Protests
On January 7, An immigration officer shot dead Renee Good, a US citizen and mother of three, during the confrontation. The 37-year-old American woman's killing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, triggered a massive protest against the Trump administration over the immigration policy. Good was in her car, stopped sideways in the street when she was shot dead.
