A 38-year-old man was arrested near US President Donald Trump’s California golf course, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said on Tuesday. Authorities subsequently searched the suspect’s home, recovering a loaded pistol, ammunition, body armour and notebooks containing "concerning statements."

Man Arrested Near Trump's California Golf Course

According to the County Sheriff’s department, the man has been identified as Jeanine John Taele of Downey. He allegedly photographed security layouts, took videos on the grounds and appeared to be monitoring “security-planning activities” before he was stopped by deputies. He was arrested on Sunday and has been charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition.

“The individual was observed walking throughout the golf course grounds taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities,” the statement by the Sheriff’s department read. The officers also recovered a loaded pistol from his vehicle and found a 16-round magazine loaded with ammunition in his pocket during the arrest. He faces several felony offences, including second-degree robbery, receiving a large-capacity magazine and possession of a short-barrelled rifle or shotgun.

Additionally, authorities have charged him with a misdemeanour for carrying a concealed firearm inside a vehicle. Taele has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is also said to be under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in a robbery case.

Attempt To Assassinate Trump?

While the sheriff’s department did not mention any direct threat to the US President, it raised concerns due to previous assassination attempts against Trump. Earlier in 2025, a man was convicted for attempting to assassinate Trump at his Florida golf club. Last month, Trump had even remarked that he is number one on Iran's target list and there may be attempts to kill him.

“Currently, investigators have identified no credible threat to our communities…However, this case underscores the importance of vigilance, strong partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and the proactive steps taken to identify and investigate suspicious activity before it can escalate,” the statement further added.
