United States President Donald Trump’s camera being switched off during a virtual G7 leaders’ meeting has sparked a major buzz on social media. Trump had joined the virtual meeting hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, who currently holds the G7 presidency on Friday.
Trump Keeps Camera Off During G7 Meet
The online reactions started after a screenshot shared by International Energy Agency chief Fatih Birol showed several leaders on camera, while Trump’s video tile appeared dark with his name displayed. The image quickly went viral, with several users joking that Trump may have been taking a nap. Many users even commented on his hair and suggested he may have simply chosen to stay off camera.
Netizens React
One user wrote, "Bro Really Hit Sleep Mode Again," referring to an earlier Oval Office incident that had also triggered jokes about Trump appearing to briefly doze off. A second user commented, “Trump is camera-off at the G7 summit. Macron, Merz, Carney, Meloni, von der Leyen, the rest of them, all on screen. Maybe Trump wasn’t in the mood to play ‘united front’ anymore?”

Another user wrote, “President Trump has his camera OFF for the G7 meeting. Major Friday vibes." A fourth user said, “Trump didn’t turn on his camera during a #G7 meeting further disgracing the U.S. He probably was having his daily meeting nap.” One user added, “Bad hair day + post-lunch drowsiness = camera stays off. Same energy as those Oval Office events where his eyes kept closing while people were talking. At least this time we can’t see it.”
While the post has grown viral, it is not confirmed whether his camera stayed off for the entire call or was switched off only when the screenshot was taken. Meanwhile, the G7 countries agreed to release 100 million barrels of oil and fuel products in the coming weeks, beginning with a substantial release of diesel.
According to AP, Trump noted that the diesel release would happen "immediately," echoing a G7 promise to start "immediately" with a "frontloaded substantial release" of diesel within the next 20 days and the rest over four months.
