BRICS Summit 2026: Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in New Delhi at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, marking a significant development in India-China ties amid the border dispute. While the visit is likely to achieve diplomatic goals, his high-tech car, the Hongqi N701, China’s exclusive state limousine, has drawn people's attention.
Xi Jinping's Limousine Is Not Just An Ordinary Car
The Hongqi N701, China's exclusive vehicle, is no ordinary vehicle, as it is equipped with a highly specialised evolution of Hongqi’s L5 limousine, reserved exclusively for China’s top leadership. The name "Hongqi" means "Red Banner". Only around 50 units of the N701 are expected to be produced over the next decade, strictly for official government use.
What Makes the N701 Special?
The limousine is built for maximum security. It features include 21-inch bulletproof wheels, bulletproof glass, heavy external armour plating, protection against small explosive devices and an air-compression system designed to counter chemical attacks.
It is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine producing around 408 horsepower. Founded in 1958, Hongqi has long been associated with Chinese state programmes rather than ordinary consumers, although the brand now also produces regular sedans, SUVs and electric vehicles.
How Does It Compare To Trump's 'Beast'?
The N701 is often compared to the US President’s armoured limousine, popularly known as “The Beast.” Both vehicles offer high levels of protection, including sealed cabins against chemical attacks and run-flat tyres.

However, the Beast is widely regarded as more advanced in some areas. It carries blood matching the President’s blood type, night-vision equipment, a smoke screen, and the ability to release an oil slick. Its armour (made of aluminium, ceramic and steel) is about eight inches thick, with windows five inches thick.
It also functions as a mobile command centre with encrypted satellite links to the White House, Pentagon and US Strategic Command.
