In a dramatic moment that has now gone viral, a 6.02-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey on Wednesday—right in the middle of a live TV broadcast. The tremor, which shook buildings and set off car alarms across western Turkey, was captured in real-time as news anchor Malika Andrews continued her show undeterred inside the CNN newsroom.
The quake hit around midday and was strongly felt in the western regions of the country. According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the epicentre was located in the inland Sea of Marmara, off the coast of Silivri near Istanbul. Meanwhile, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) confirmed the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.02 and occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres.
Though no major damage or casualties were reported, the tremor caused widespread panic, with residents fleeing buildings and gathering in open areas. In cities like Istanbul and Tekirdağ, where the quake was strongly felt, sirens wailed, and emergency services were quickly mobilised.
Moment Caught On Camera
Inside CNN’s Istanbul bureau, anchor Meltem Bozbeyoglu was hosting a live segment when the ground began to shake. As the tremors intensified, cameras captured the moment she paused briefly, appearing visibly rattled. Despite the sudden and unsettling development, Bozbeyoglu maintained her composure and continued reporting with calm professionalism.

Praised For Professionalism
Many viewers took to platforms like X and Instagram to praise the anchor’s courage under pressure. “It’s not easy to remain composed when an earthquake hits. Full respect to her professionalism,” one user commented. Others noted how the moment served as a reminder of the unpredictability of natural disasters—and the resilience often required of journalists on the job.
