Tesla In India: Union Minister Piyush Goyal recently discussed Tesla CEO Elon Musk's interest in India as a prime hub for manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs). Goyal mentioned that Musk sees India's potential due to its competitive manufacturing costs and a skilled workforce. He pointed out how Tesla had a significant impact on China's electric mobility growth by collaborating with local companies.
Tesla's entry into India signifies a major step towards strengthening the country's EV sector. The choice of location for Tesla's factory will not only impact the local economy but also showcase India's potential as a global manufacturing and innovation hub in the EV industry.
Goyal highlighted India's leadership in electric mobility and stated that companies like Tesla are increasingly interested in India, especially with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to continue leading the country. While there's no confirmation on where Tesla might set up its manufacturing plant, Goyal emphasised that discussions should focus on India as a whole rather than individual states. He said, “Hum Bharat ke rehne wale hai Bharat ki baat karte hai.”
Elon Musk's visit to India on April 22 and 22 is anticipated to bring major announcements, including the launch of Starlink service and plans to invest in the EV industry of the country. However, the exact location for Tesla's factory remains uncertain. Tesla's factories, known as Gigafactories generate jobs and revenue. Several Indian states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, are vying to attract Tesla.

Reports suggest a possible collaboration between Tesla and Reliance in India, although no official statements have been made. The competition among states highlights the significance of securing Tesla's investment considering the economic benefits it would bring. Tamil Nadu, with its existing automobile manufacturing hubs, is particularly keen on attracting Tesla.
