On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, which marks the conclusion of Sharadiya Navratri, Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan is set for a grand Dussehra celebration today. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will continue his long-standing tradition by setting fire to the Ravan effigy for the 19th consecutive time.
This year's event is enhanced with several special features and modern technology, promising a spectacular experience for attendees. The main Ravan Dahan ceremony is scheduled for 5:45 pm.
Event Highlights And Innovations
Rain-Proof Effigies: In anticipation of possible rain, the effigies have been coated with a clear varnish to make them water-resistant.
High-Tech Ignition: The effigies will be set ablaze using a remote control system, which will simultaneously trigger a display of colourful lights and fireworks.
Special Effects: In a new addition this year, coloured smoke will emanate from Ravan's ears and shoulders.
Giant Effigies: An 80-foot-high effigy of Ravan will be burned, along with a 75-foot one of Meghnath and a 70-foot one of Kumbhakaran.
Grand Fireworks: A spectacular fireworks display worth ₹500,000 has been arranged for the ceremony.

Massive Security And Administrative Arrangements
To ensure a safe and well-organised event, the Patna administration has made extensive arrangements:
Surveillance: The grounds are being monitored by 128 CCTV cameras and from 10 watchtowers.
Emergency Response: A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is stationed at the main gate to handle any emergencies. For assistance, helpline numbers 0612-2219810 and 0612-2219234 have been issued.
Crowd And Traffic Management: Traffic has been restricted on major routes around Gandhi Maidan, and special parking areas have been designated for pass holders.
Administrative Deployment: The Maidan has been divided into four sectors, each managed by an ADM and a DSP. A total of 103 magistrates and police officers have been deployed across 49 locations. Media personnel have been allotted Gate number 13 for entry.
Political Significance And Public Appeal
This year's event holds political and cultural significance as it precedes the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has performed the Ravan Vadhannually since 2005.
