Bihar Rains: In the past 24 hours, lightning strikes have claimed the lives of 12 people across six districts in Bihar. The victims include four from Buxar, three from West Champaran, two from Katihar, and one each from Kaimur, Lakhisarai, and Sitamarhi.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He assured that the state government stands with them in this time of grief and has directed officials to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person.
"It is sad that in the last 24 hours, four persons have died in Buxar, 3 in West Champaran, 2 in Katihar, 1 in Kaimur, 1 in Lakhisarai and 1 in Sitamarhi due to lightning. Instructions have been given to immediately give Rs. 4 lakhs as ex-gratia to the families of the deceased," said CM Nitish Kumar in a post on X.
The CM has urged citizens to exercise utmost caution during adverse weather conditions. He advised people to stay alert and strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by the Disaster Management Department to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
"People are appealed to be fully cautious during bad weather. To protect yourself from lightning, follow the suggestions issued from time to time by the Disaster Management Department. Stay indoors during bad weather and stay safe," he added.
