In a big twist in Bihar elections, VIP candidate from Munger's Tarapur Sakaldeo Bind joined the BJP on Monday leaving the fray an almost cakewalk for the deputy CM and BJP candidate Samrat Choudhary.
He joined the BJP in presence of Choudhary and extended support to him. The development comes as a major blow to RJD-led Mahagathbandhan which has already been grappling from within over the seat-sharing arrangement.
The grand alliance, also called as the INDIA bloc, failed to materialise the seat-sharing pact even after the nomination deadlines of both the phases passed.
In nearly a dozen seats, more than one parties have filed the nomination. On the other hand, Hemant Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has pulled out of the contest blaming the RJD and Congress of hatching a political conspiracy against it.
The party said that it has been suffering betrayal for the last two elections and this time they were promised five seats during talks in Patna.
However, once again they were not entertained in the grand alliance. The party initially announced six candidates, but on Monday withdrew from the elections.
JMM warned the RJD and Congress of consequences adding that it will review the alliance in Jharkhand, where RJD and Congress both are part of the government.
In another event, Jan Suraaj's state spokesperson Amit Kumar Paswan, along with former district councillor Anita Kumari and Jan Suraaj's founding member Karmveer Paswan, also joined the BJP on Sunday with hundreds of supporters.
BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal welcomed all newcomers. Speaking at the event, Jaiswal said, "Mahagathbandhan wants power, while NDA aims for Bihar's development."
