A female constable was allegedly shot dead by her husband at a hotel in Patna on Friday. Police said that the accused, identified as Gajendra Kumar, had a dispute with his wife, Shobha Kumari over her job and wanted her to quit. The man called the female constable to meet him at the hotel after returning from Delhi, where he had gone to bring medicines for her father.
The police recovered the body of Shobha Kumari, who was a 2022 batch constable of Bihar Military Police (BMP), from the hotel room along with two pistols and four cartridges. Gajendra Kumar, who runs a coaching institute in Kurtha, was arrested and confessed to the crime. He said he was angry with his wife for not spending enough time with him and their four-year-old daughter because of her job.
Shobha Kumari and Gajendra Kumar had a love marriage in 2016 after meeting at his coaching institute. They lived together for five years until Shobha Kumari got a job in Bihar government and went for training. Gajendra Kumar felt neglected by his wife and started pressuring her to leave the job. Shobha Kumari refused and their relationship soured after the refusal.
Gajendra Kumar had a previous marriage that was forced on him when he was a minor by his family when he was residing in Satanpur village. He later separated from his first wife after a compromise and she remarried. Shobha Kumari’s family, who live in Sora village, left for Patna after hearing about her murder.

The couple’s daughter, who was preparing for her birthday on Friday, is unaware of the tragedy and is waiting for her parents to come home. She is currently with her uncle in Damua village.
