7th Pay Commission:  March 30 is going to be a special day for central government employees as they will get an increased salary on this date. The salary for March would come with an increased Dearness Allowance (DA) and House Rent Allowance i.e.

Usually, the employees get their salary on the last day of every month, but March 31 is Sunday, which is a holiday. It is expected that central government employees will get their salary on March 30 this month. However, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked banks to work despite March 31 being a Sunday, as it is the last day of the financial year.

DA was increased by 4 percent

The central government had approved a 4 percent hike in dearness allowance for its employees. With this increase, the DA reached 50 percent from 46 percent. The revised DA is applicable from January 2024. This means, that union government employees will also get arrears for January and February. As DA reached 50 percent, the House Rent Allowance (HRA) went the increment too.

Employees can get up to 30 percent HRA depending on the classification of the city they live in. In addition, the increase in DA has also led to an increase in various types of allowances for central government employees, which include allowances for child care, and child education. However, employees have to claim these allowances.

Last time, the central government announced a similar 4% DA hike in October 2023. The government decides rates of dearness allowance based on the inflation data.  Meanwhile, States Like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar have also announced increments in Dearness Allowance for their respective employees.
