MGNREGA Wage Hike: With the Lok Sabha elections just around the corner, the central government on Thursday announced a 3-10 per cent hike in the wage rate of MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers in nominal terms for the financial year 2024-25. According to the official notification, these revised wage rates will come into effect from April 1, 2024.

Among the states, Goa is set to witness the most substantial hike of 10.06 per cent, while Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have seen the lowest 3 per cent increase in wage rates as compared to the previous fiscal year. Karnataka, Goa, Meghalaya, and Manipur were also among the states that registered the lowest increase in wage rates.
Check State-Wise New Wage Rates:
- Workers in Goa used to get Rs 322 per day which has now increased to Rs 356 per day after the revision.
- In Karnataka, the wage rate under MGNREGA has increased to Rs 349, which was earlier Rs 316 per day.
- The daily wage of workers in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand has increased from Rs 230 to Rs 237 per day. There has been a 7 per cent increase in the wages of MGNREGA workers in Haryana, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Lakshadweep. Now their daily wage has increased from Rs 267.32 to Rs 285.47.
- Also, the daily wage of MGNREGA workers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh has increased from Rs 221 to Rs 243 per day.
The rural development ministry reportedly received permission from the Election Commission to announce the revised wage rates during the implementation of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
