Janmashtami 2024 Stock Market holiday: Banks will observe the holiday on Monday i.e. August 26 on the occasion of Krishna Janamashtmi. The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm by devotees of Lord Krishna. The holy festival is also known as Krishna Janmashtami, Gokulashtami, Sri Krishna Jayanti, Krishnashtami, Ashtami Rohini, and Sri Jayanti, Lord Krishna is born on this day.
Lord Krishna is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is revered throughout India. On this day, devotees observe a fast and seek blessings for the well-being of their families. This year, the festival falls on Monday, August 26 and it leads for a long weekend.

Now that Janmashtami is just a few days away, many must be wondering if banks will be closed in all states on the festive day. The answer to that is that banks will not be closed everywhere. According to RBI's bank holiday calendar, public and private sector banks will remain closed in certain states on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami on August 26, 2024.
The states where banks will remain closed on the occasion of Janmashtami 2024 are:
Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Chandigarh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Srinagar.
It is advisable to plan your banking-related work accordingly. It is worth mentioning that online banking and UPI facilities will not be affected during the holidays, despite the closure of the branches.
Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day of the month of Bhadrapada (Ashtami), which usually falls in August or September. it is believed that lord Krishna born on this ocassion.
