Retail Inflation Data: According to official data released on Monday, retail inflation eased to 5.22 per cent in December from 5.48 per cent in November. This was mainly due to lower prices of food packages. In terms of the consumer price index, inflation is expected to rise to 5.48 per cent in November and 5.69 per cent in December.
According to the Consumer Price Index data released by the National Statistics Office, core food inflation eased to 8.39 per cent in December. It was 9.04 per cent in November 2023 and 9.53 per cent in December.
In December 2024, CPI (overall) and food inflation remained at their lowest in the last four months, the NSO said.
Last month, the Reserve Bank of India raised its inflation forecast for the current fiscal to 4.8 per cent from 4.5 per cent. It added that food price pressures are likely to continue to push up inflation in the December quarter.
Inflation based on the Consumer Price Index rose from an average of 3.6 per cent in July-August to 5.5 per cent in September and 6.2 per cent in October 2024.
