The ICC Champions Trophy first took place in Bangladesh in 1998, but it wasn't until the 2009 edition in South Africa that the tournament introduced its now-iconic white jackets. This ceremonial attire has since become a badge of honor for each member of the winning team.
Unveiled on August 13, 2009, the jacket was designed by Mumbai-based fashion designer Babita M, whose collections were featured in high-profile outlets. Crafted from rich Italian wool blends, the jackets incorporate textured stripes, with gold braiding and the Champions Trophy logo elegantly embroidered in golden contour on the fabric.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 final, legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram unveiled the ceremonial suit in a promotional video. He emphasized that the jacket symbolizes not only tactical brilliance but also a legacy that continues to inspire generations of cricketers.
He said, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy represents the best of the best and the unveiling of the white jacket, which symbolises greatness, will now build the excitement of the event across the global cricket community.”
Coming to the match, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Champions Trophy final on Sunday.
New Zealand made one change, bringing in Nathan Smith for injured Matt Henry, while India named an unchanged playing eleven.
It was for the 12th time in a row that India captain Rohit Sharma lost the toss in an ODI.
