ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table: In another upset of the ICC World Cup 2023, Afghanistan registered their first-ever ODI win against Pakistan as they defeated them by eight wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday.
With the second win in the tournament, Afghanistan moved to sixth place in the World Cup 2023 points table ahead of Bangladesh, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and England respectively. Afghanistan have four points in five games while Pakistan occupy fifth place with four points in the five fixtures.
Hosts India continue to dominate the standings with their unbeaten streak in the competition. Rohit Sharma-led side sit at top spot with 10 points in five games while New Zealand are placed second with eight points in five matches followed by South Africa (six points) and Australia (four points) respectively.

Earlier, Afghanistan stunned defending champions England by 69 runs in Delhi. Afghanistan have so far won just three matches in the ODI World Cup history since making their debut in the showpiece event.
Afghanistan chased down the target of 283 with six balls to spare with openers Ibrahim Zadran (87 off 113 balls) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65 off 53 balls) setting up the win.
One-down Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi chipped in with 77 not out and 48 not out respectively as Afghanistan continued their giant-killing spree.

The stunning loss literally pushed Pakistan on the brink of elimination.
Earlier, Babar Azam struck a composed half-century before useful cameos by lower-order batters guided Pakistan to a reasonably good total if one takes the track into account.
Opener Abdullah Shafique made 58 off 75 balls and Babar got 74 off 92 balls, but had it not been for the efforts of Iftikhar Ahmed and the returning Shadab Khan, Pakistan would have finished with far less than what they eventually achieved.
While Iftikhar smashed his way to a 27-ball 40, Shadab contributed a breezy 40 in 38 deliveries.
Spinner Noor Ahmad picked a three-wicket haul while Naveen-ul-Haq claimed two scalps to restrict Pakistan to 282/7 in 50 overs.
