IPL 2026 Auction: As the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) retention deadline looms large, the Rajasthan Royals' (RR) management is leaving no stone unturned to revamp their squad, with the buzz around a potential Sanju Samson trade intensified.

Samson's impending departure to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a move that could begin a trade deal involving star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's transfer to Rajasthan.

Interestingly, Riyan Parag's chances of taking the captaincy appeared to be decreasing, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel emerging as frontrunners for the role.

The Royals have implemented a significant coaching shake-up, appointing Kumar Sangakkara as their new head coach following Rahul Dravid's departure.

According to a report in timesofindia.com, during India's England tour earlier this year, Sangakkara briefed Jaiswal and Jurel on their possibility to lead the team.

According to reports, Jurel's wicketkeeping and finishing prowess make him the frontrunner for the captaincy role, edging past Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Sanju Samson's Career With Rajasthan Royals

Sanju Samson has been synonymous with Rajasthan Royals for over a decade, representing the franchise in 11 seasons. Having joined RR in 2013, he quickly became one of their key players and was retained ahead of the 2014 season, at just 19 years old.

Samson led the team in 67 matches, winning and losing 33 each. He had his best IPL season in 2024, scoring 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.47. He was retained for Rs18 crore ahead of the 2025 season, but a side injury midway through the campaign ruled him out of the second half of the tournament, with RR's form collapsing, as they lost close matches. The team finished ninth out of ten.
