ENG vs SA 3rd ODI: England's star batter Joe Root is currently at his absolute best. After performing consistently in the longest format, he has performed brilliantly in the 50-over format as well, and that too against South Africa.
Joe Root Continues His Purple Patch Against South Africa
During the 3rd ODI, Root smashed his 19th ODI century and achieved this milestone off just 95 balls. With this, he has leveled Babar Azam, Brian Lara, and Mahela Jayawardene's record of smashing 19 hundreds in this format.
He already has scored the most for the host in ODIs and has now scored 58 overall centuries under his belt. He brought up his 19th century in this format after playing in 172 innings, whereas Babar Azam has achieved the same after batting in 131 innings. This is Root's third century in this format this year, while batting at a staggering average of 70.71.
Root And Bethell Masterclass Take England Over 400
This hundred in their backyard is also his 10th in this format and has helped the host post a mammoth target during the 3rd ODI despite losing the first two matches. During the ongoing match, Root came into bat after Ben Duckett's wicket during the ninth over and kept the scoring rate going. He stitched a brilliant partnership with the in-form batter Jacob Bethell, who too smashed a hundred and helped the hosts post a target of 400 runs.
Root did get out after scoring exactly 100 runs, of which he had scored 72 against fast bowlers. His strike rate was more than 100, and that's what has helped him become one of the greatest batters of the modern-day era.
