Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), becoming the youngest person to hold the position. The 37-year-old will serve a four-year term.
Tamim had been leading the board’s ad hoc committee since April, after former BCB president Faruque Ahmed Islam was removed following a corruption investigation.
After his election on Sunday, Tamim said several areas within Bangladesh cricket need improvement, but any major changes would require discussions and approval from the board’s councillors.

“There are some issues and loopholes that need attention. If everyone agrees, we can discuss possible changes during the next Annual General Meeting. Decisions cannot be made by just a few board members. We have 1972 councillors, and their support is important. If changes are needed for the growth of Bangladesh cricket, we will definitely consider them,” Tamim said.
The former opener, who represented Bangladesh in 70 Tests and 243 One-Day Internationals during a career that lasted more than 15 years, admitted that he would need time to understand the workings of the board before introducing reforms.
“This is a new role for me. I am still getting to know many of the people involved. I have only recently met several of them. Give us some time to discuss things properly and identify where improvements can be made,” he added.
Tamim also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability during his tenure.
“I want the board to work in a transparent manner. I do not want any controversy involving board members. We will try our best to carry out our responsibilities with honesty and integrity,” he said.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board had come under the spotlight earlier this year during a dispute involving India after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was left out of the IPL despite securing a contract with Kolkata Knight Riders. Tamim was among those who advised against escalating the matter.
The election was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Tamim became the 21st president in the history of the Bangladesh Cricket Board after receiving 73 votes from 75 councillors.
