IIM PhD Admissions 2025: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has announced its plan to implement reservation in PhD admissions starting in 2025, in accordance with government guidelines.

Application Process

In its recent application for the doctoral program, IIMA included a clause affirming its commitment to adhere to the Government of India's reservation guidelines. The application process started on September 19 and will close on January 20.

Legal Background And PIL

Last year, IIMA informed the Gujarat High Court about its potential implementation of reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and disabled candidates in doctoral programs from 2025. This response came in relation to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in 2021 by Anil Wagde, a member of the Global IIM Alumni Network, who advocated for the introduction of reservation in the institute's PhD programs.

Through the PIL, Wagde had submitted that the absence of reservation in PhD admissions violated constitutional provisions, the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, and the norms set by the University Grants Commission.

Confirmation Of Reservation Guidelines

The announcement for 'PhD Admissions 2025' posted on IIMA's website indicates that "Government of India guidelines for reservation are followed during admissions" suggesting the introduction of quotas starting next year. A representative from IIMA's media department confirmed that a similar notice regarding reservation was included in the admission announcement published in leading newspapers earlier this month.
