West Bengal WBSSC Teacher Recruitment Merit List:  The West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) on Wednesday released a merit list containing over 14,000 names for the recruitment of teachers at the Upper Primary Level, following a directive from the Calcutta High Court. Candidates can check the merit list at www.westbengalssc.com/sscorg/wbssc/home.

According to media reports, the counselling process for these candidates is expected to begin before the Durga Puja festival next month. However, the exact date and time are yet to be announced.

The selected candidates had appeared for the State Level Selection Test (SLST), conducted by the SSC in 2016, for the recruitment of teachers in Upper Primary schools. The interview list was initially published on August 24, 2019, followed by the merit list on October 4, 2019.

However, the selection process faced legal challenges over allegations of irregularities. The Calcutta High Court annulled the entire process and directed the SSC to conduct the mechanism afresh following rules.

The single bench order was challenged with 36 appeals filed before a division bench. In response to a court directive, the SSC released a new interview list in June 2021, which identified 14,339 vacancies, excluding those reserved for para-teachers.

Dissatisfied candidates again approached the high court, leading to an order on August 28 directing the SSC to publish the merit list within four weeks.
