Helmed by Om Raut, Adipurush is an adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana. The movie stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles, along with Sunny Singh and Vatsal Sheth in pivotal roles. From bad VFX to hurting religious sentiments, Adipurush has been in the headlines for quite some time now.

As the movie will hit the theatres in June, here is a look at the controversies surrounding it:

Adipurush To Show Human Side Of Ravan- Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan's statement regarding his character, Ravan, in Adipurush stirred controversy. Later, he apologised for the same and released a statement, reading, "I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness and Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil."

Animation Studio Accuses Adipurush Of Plagiarism

An animation studio Vaanar Sena Studios accused Adipurush of copying their art. Their statement read, "It’s disappointing to see our work being copied like this. But over the years, it’s happened so many times that it’s just funny at this point. We don’t see the point of fighting this as we’d rather focus on bringing you guys awesome content and continue on building that road. But maybejust maybe, the word will spread :) (sic)."

Earlier, this year, a concept artist Pratik Sanghar accused Adipurush of copying its designs. The artist stated, "I am a concept artist from India. I made my exploration for Lord Shri Ram’s possible looks for a Ramayan Epic if it were ever to be made. This was around a year ago. And the official concept artist working on Adipurush literally stole my artwork mix matched it with my similar artwork and called it their own that too without informing me or providing me any compensation. This is one of the reasons for the failure of such a project. People working on it have no passion or love for the project instead they are finding and using cheap tricks to make this project."

Complaint Filed Against Adipurush Makers Over Poster

A complaint was recently lodged against the creators of Adipurush on April 5 following the distribution of a poster. According to Sections 295(A), 298, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, this complaint has been filed along with a demand for the filing of an FIR. The complaint drew attention to the fact that the main characters do not wear Janeu, in contrast to what is written in Ramacharitamanas' sacred book.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra expresses Dissatisfaction

Madhya Pradesh Minister Narottam Mishra expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the film is a 'wrong' depiction of Hindus. Hanuman ji is shown wearing leather, whereas the description (in the scriptures) of the deity's costume is differentâ€æ These are scenes that hurt religious sentiments."

Adipurush Is Islamisation Of Ramayana- Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha

The Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha issued a warning to the makers of Adipurush and asked them to remove controversial scenes from the movie. The statement read, "This film is a complete Islamisation of Ramayana and of Lord Ram, Maa Sita, Lord Hanuman. Even Saif Ali Khan who is playing the role of Ravana in the Adipurush movie looks like Taimur and Khilji. The film is going to spread hatred among a particular class by inciting religious sentiments in the country. This picture is being widely publicised through the Internet, which is completely harmful for our society and country."
