The movie Maharaja, starring actor Vijay Sethupathi, is currently performing exceptionally well at the box office, with reports suggesting that its earnings are approaching Rs 50 crore. Critics have praised Sethupathi's acting skills, yet recent revelations indicate that he wasn't the initial choice for the lead role in Maharaja.
According to reports, director and writer Nithilan Swaminathan, along with other key crew members, initially favoured Vijay Antony for the lead role. However, due to contractual obligations with the production company Passion Studios, the director proceeded with Vijay Sethupathi instead. These details were corroborated in an interview that surfaced on X, previously known as Twitter, recently.
Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, the movie also features Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and a talented ensemble including DOP Nataraj, Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Vinoth Sagar, and Kalki, among others. As for its release on OTT platforms, here's what we currently know:
The film centres on a barber deeply devoted to his child, who embarks on a quest for revenge when his home is robbed. At the police station, he cryptically informs them that his "lakshmi" has been stolen. The mystery unfolds as authorities and audiences wonder whether "lakshmi" refers to a person or an object, driving the narrative forward in a search to reclaim what was lost.
