Many actors from Urdu cinema have gained global popularity after starring in beloved and successful TV series. Shows like Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai to Suno Chanda have managed to keep audience hooked. Here are some of the most popular Pakistani dramas of all time, which are available for free on YouTube.
Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha
A 2022 Pakistani romantic drama series written by Sidra Sehar Imran and directed by Badar Mahmood, stars Rabia Kulsum, Salma Hassan, Shahin Khan, Wahaj Ali, Hania Aamir, Zaviyar Nauman, and Angeline Malik. Produced under the banner of Big Bang Entertainment by Fahad Mustafa and Dr. Ali Kazmi, it aired from December 12, 2022, to July 31, 2023.
Zindagi Gulzar Hai
Directed by Sultana Siddiqui, the drama stars Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed in the lead roles. Although the first episode aired on May 24, 2013, the drama remains one of Pakistan's most beloved TV series. Sanam Saeed portrays Kashaf, who encounters significant class and gender biases, but her life takes a turn when she meets Zaroon (Fawad Khan) in college.
Humsafar
Adapted from the novel of the same name by Farhat Ishtiaq, the series, directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, stars Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Naveen Waqar in lead roles, with Atiqa Odho, Hina Khawaja Bayat, Behroze Sabzwari, and Noor Hassan Rizvi in supporting roles. It is also streaming on Netflix.
Suno Chanda
A 2018 Pakistani Ramadan romantic comedy series created by Shahzad Javed, directed by Ahson Talish, and written by Saima Akram Chaudhry, revolves around the Pakistani wedding customs and tells the story of a couple who are cousins bound in Nikaah but living separately until their Rukhsati ceremony. It explores the dynamics between their families. Its stars Iqra Aziz and Farhan Saeed as leads -- Jiya and Arsalan. It is also available on MX Player and Zee5.
The ensemble cast includes Samina Ahmad, Syed Mohammed Ahmed, Sami Khan, Nadia Afgan, Farah Shah, Sohail Sameer, Farhan Ali Agha, Mizna Waqas, Ali Safina, Tara Mahmood, Adnan Shah Tipu, Mashal Khan, and Nabeel Zuberi in recurring roles. The series stars Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi in the main roles, garnering rapid popularity due to the captivating chemistry between the lead couple and its engaging background score.
Dil Lagi
Produced by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib under their banner Six Sigma Plus, it is directed by Nadeem Baig and written by Faiza Iftikhar. The series stars Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat in lead roles. It narrates the romantic tale of Mohid (Humayun) and Anmol (Mehwish). The story unfolds in the narrow lanes of Sukkur in interior Sindh, where Anmol resides with her mother and younger sister Mishal Ansari, leading a modest life. Following her father's demise, Anmol's family faces vulnerability as her father's debt to local moneylender Kifayat Ali, settled using their home as collateral, lacks proper documentation. Exploiting this situation, Kifayat Ali enlists Mohid, a real estate expert with a hint of thuggery, to dispossess Anmol's family. The ensuing clash between Mohid and Anmol forms the core of the narrative.
Meray Paas Tum Ho
Romantic drama series created by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib under their production company Six Sigma Plus. Directed by Nadeem Baig and scripted by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, the series features Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan, and Adnan Siddiqui in the lead roles. It is also available on ZEE 5 for free.
Sadqay Tumhare
Pakistani biographical drama serial inspired by the life of its own writer, Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar is directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin and co-produced by Momina Duraid, Samina Humayun Saeed, and Tariq Ahmad Shah, the series features Mahira Khan, Samiya Mumtaz, and Adnan Malik, who made his acting debut with this serial.
Based on the writer's own real-life love story, the series, set in the 1980s, follows the journey of Shano and Khalil, who have been engaged since childhood, but their families' past threatens their love.
Baaghi
It portrays the life of the controversial Pakistani actress Qandeel Baloch, who was tragically murdered by her brother in the name of honor in July 2016. The screenplay for the drama was crafted by Umera Ahmad, with Saba Qamar portraying the lead character of Fauzia/Qandeel in the series. Within a week of its launch, Baaghi became the most-watched serial among Pakistanis on YouTube, attracting significant attention and sparking expected controversies.
