Mrunal Thakur, who is today praised for films like Jersey and her upcoming Son of Sardaar 2, has found herself in the middle of another online controversy. An old video of the actress has resurfaced on Reddit, and many believe her comments were directed at Anushka Sharma. For context, Mrunal was once considered for Salman Khan’s blockbuster Sultan before the role eventually went to Anushka. In the resurfaced clip, Mrunal opens up about rejecting certain roles early in her career.

Mrunal Thakur in the viral video said, “So many. I said no, honestly, because I was not ready. Controversies hojayegi. It became a super hit and did help the female actress to reach there. But, then I realised if I would have done that film at that point of time I would have lost myself.” It was her follow-up statement that caught everyone’s attention. Mrunal said, “Then she is not working at the moment, but I am, is itself a victory because I don’t want instant gratification, instant recognition, instant fame because anything that comes instantly goes away instantly.” Although she didn’t mention any names, many netizens quickly connected the dots and assumed the actress she was talking about was Anushka Sharma.

Meanwhile, the clip sparked mixed reactions online. On Reddit, one user wrote, “Peak mean girl energy ‘she’s not working today but I am.’ Why put others down to lift yourself?” Another said, “If this was about Anushka, Mrunal should remember how Anushka went from Sultan to producing her own films. She’s hardly ‘not working.’” Some users also pointed out that Mrunal may have missed a career-defining chance, with one comment reading, “She might have benefitted from Sultan, but Salman and Anushka’s chemistry was unexpectedly good. The film worked because of that.”

On the other hand, this isn’t the first time Mrunal has faced criticism for her words. Just last week, another old video of hers went viral, in which she was seen body-shaming Bipasha Basu. The actress later apologised, but the backlash lingered. Now, with this latest resurfaced clip, some critics feel she has again targeted a fellow actress instead of showing solidarity.A Reddit user commented, “That last part was unnecessary shade at the actress; she really is a mean girl.” Another wrote, “I may sound petty, but I just cannot stand the face she makes while speaking. It kind of exudes ‘know-it-all’ and ‘I’m-better-than-you’. I guess I just cannot forget ‘Go marry Bipasha’ thingy….. babe, at least pretend to be humble.”A third user added, “I really think it is Sultan – but an actress deliberately taking a break from Bollywood to spend time with family  is not her ‘victory’. Bad attitude, especially for someone senior to you.”
