When it comes to global stardom, comparisons between Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo DiCaprio often spark debate. Both icons have ruled cinema for decades, built loyal fan bases across continents, and left an unshakable mark on the industry. However, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently recalled an incident that, in his eyes, tipped the scales in favour of Bollywood’s “King Khan.” The year was 2012, when Shah Rukh attended the festival for the premiere of Don 2, which also featured Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, and Kunal Kapoor. On the other hand, Leonardo DiCaprio was there for J. Edgar, directed by Martin Scorsese. Anurag Kashyap, too, was present at the festival that year for his two-part film Gangs of Wasseypur, which went on to receive a standing ovation.

In a conversation with Lallantop, Anurag Kashyap shared his personal experience at the Berlin Film Festival, where Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo DiCaprio were scheduled to appear on the same day. The filmmaker described how fans queued up from early morning, not for the Hollywood superstar, but for Shah Rukh. He said in Hindi, “Maine khud apni aankhon se dekha hai Berlin Film Festival me. Leonardo DiCaprio bhi ussi din tha aur Shah Rukh Khan bhi ussi din tha, aur subah se line lagi hai Shah Rukh Khan ke liye.”

SRK’s Global Appeal

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan has graced the Berlin Film Festival three times in 2008, 2010, and 2012 and each time, his presence drew massive crowds. According to Kashyap, this overwhelming response clearly reflected the superstar’s global reach. The incident left such a mark on him that he now openly admits that SRK’s fandom often overshadows even Hollywood’s biggest names.

While SRK and Leonardo DiCaprio have attended some of the same events in the past, they have never collaborated on a film. Given their stature, fans often dream of seeing them share the screen one day, though nothing of the sort has been confirmed.
