Top-Grossing South Indian Movies Of 2025: Movies in a variety of genres and languages pleased audiences everywhere, from historical epics to poignant dramas. South Indian gems made a big impact both domestically and abroad, in addition to Bollywood releases. This year was a rollercoaster for South Indian cinema, with major box office shocks as well as high moments. Coolie's box office performance was mediocre despite the excitement. Globally, Coolie made Rs 518 crore. The film tells the tale of a former gold smuggler who wants to get revenge. Rajinikanth-led movie also starred Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan.

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra

Lokah Chapter 1 proved to be a breakthrough for the Malayalam industry as the first Malayalam movie to earn over Rs 300 crore worldwide. The narrative focused on an enigmatic woman who, after being bitten by a bat and surviving a deadly accident in the past, finds her legendary abilities.

They Call Him OG

They Call Him OG raised Rs 293.65 crore at the box office worldwide. With a record-breaking North American premiere, the movie had an extraordinary international reach. The film, which starred Pawan Kalyan, took place in Mumbai in the 1990s and Japan in the 1940s.

L2 Empuraan

Mohanlal played the lead in L2: Empuraan, the second part of the Lucifer trilogy. Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran were among the cast members. According to reports, the Malayalam film earned Rs 266.81 crore worldwide despite having a budget of only Rs 175 crore. The narrative tracks Khureshi Ab'raam, the mysterious leader of a crime syndicate, as he returns to Kerala to deal with political unrest and emerging communal groups under the antagonist Balraj.

Sankranthiki Vasthunam

Sankranthiki Vasthunam, which was released in January 2025, made a significant amount of money and was one of the highest-grossing South Indian films of the year. Globally, it brought in Rs 255.2 crore. The plot centers on a former top police officer who leads a peaceful family life before being called back into action to save a tech tycoon who has been abducted. When his wife demands to accompany him along with his ex-girlfriend, the mission takes a humorous turn.

With high-profile movies featuring some of South India's top performers, including Prabhas, Yash, Allu Arjun and Thalapathy Vijay, box office festivities will continue throughout 2026. The real question is whether 2026 will live up to expectations. What do you think?
