Bollywood singer and music composer Sachin Sanghvi, popularly known as one half of the duo Sachin-Jigar, was arrested on Thursday, October 23, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman after reportedly promising her a role in a music album and marriage, police confirmed on Friday. The arrest was made under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

What is the complaint against Sachin?

According to news agency PTI, the complainant, a woman in her 20s, alleged that Sachin Sanghvi first reached out to her on Instagram in February last year. He reportedly initiated contact and promised her an opportunity to work on his upcoming music album, after which the two exchanged phone numbers.

A police official stated that Sachin later invited the woman to his music studio, where he proposed marriage. The complaint further alleges that he went on to sexually assault her on multiple occasions.

Aditya Mithe, the lawyer representing Sachin Sanghvi, said, "The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated. There are absolutely no merits to the case." He further added, "My client’s detention by the police was illegal, and that is the reason why he was released on bail immediately. We intend to defend all allegations fully and unequivocally."

Sachin Sanghvi has not yet issued any statement regarding the allegations, and his official Instagram account, @soulfulsachin, appears to be deactivated. His music partner, Jigar, has also remained silent on the matter.
