The 90s Bollywood singer Udit Narayan, known for his melodious voice, received severe backlash this year after he kissed female fans at his concert. Some of his excited female admirers gathered around the stage and approached the singer for a selfie while he was performing ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’. One of them turned towards him and planted a kiss on his cheek. In response, the singer kissed her on the lips. However, it didn’t end there; he went on to do the same with every female fan who came for a selfie.

The incident quickly stirred a controversy on social media, and soon paparazzi and celebrities began joking about the negative perception surrounding Udit Narayan.

When Udit Narayan Defended Himself After The Kissing Controversy

After receiving heavy criticism for the incident, Udit Narayan defended himself and tried to protect his image. In an old interview with Hindustan Times, Udit said, “Fans itne deewane hote hain na. Hum log aise nahi hain, hum decent log hain. (Fans are crazy. We are not like this. We are decent people.) Some people encourage this and show their love through this. Udaake kya karna hai ab iss cheez ko? (What is the point of spreading this?) There are so many people in the crowd and we have bodyguards present too. But fans think they are getting a chance to meet, so someone extends their hands for a handshake, some kiss the hands… yeh sab deewangi hoti hai. Uspe itna dhyaan nahi dena chahiye. (This is all madness. We should not pay attention to this).”

The singer added, “I have been in Bollywood for 46 years now, my image hasn’t been such (that I forcefully kiss fans). In fact, I fold my hands when I see the love my fans shower on me, while on stage, I bow down, thinking phir aaj ka yeh waqt laut ke aaye na aaye. (Perhaps this time will not come back tomorrow).”

Interestingly, Udit Narayan is not the first one to be kissed by fans on stage. His son, Aditya Narayan, had a similar encounter, that too on national Television.

When Aditya Narayan Was Kissed By A Female Fan On National Television

Following in his father’s footsteps, Aditya Narayan also stepped into the Hindi music industry in 1992. He might not have established himself as one of the top-most singers in the country, but he was definitely one of the most loved hosts of all time. In 2007, the singer hosted his first show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge on Zee TV and within no time, he became a national crush for the female audience. Fans used to love his charm, innocence, hosting style and of course his good looks.

Seeing his charm, one female fan from the audience of the show approached him and planted a kiss on his cheek. It started when Aditya was speaking to the audience, a girl stood up and proposed to him on national television. She said, “Excuse me, I am proposing to you and I love you.” Aditya was about to speak with the girl when she leaned in and kissed his cheek.

 

Surprised by this gesture, 19-year-old Aditya handled the situation with poise, smiling and blushing. He moved on without making a scene. Aditya’s composed reaction then won the hearts of the audience.

Both incidents involved unexpected gestures from fans, but the reactions from the stars and the public reception were quite different. One was handled with poise and praised, while the other sparked controversy.
