Born in Kolkata in 1955, Mithu Mukherjee made her acting debut as a teenager at the age of 17 in Chitta Bose's 1972 film Shesh Parba, where she was paired opposite Shamit Bhanja. Her breakout performance arrived shortly after in Dinen Gupta’s Marjina Abdulla, where she played the titular lead opposite Debraj Roy.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Mithu Mukherjee worked alongside legendary figures of Bengali cinema, including Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chattopadhyay, and Ranjit Mullick.
