Latest South Releases: South Indian cinema enthusiasts have an exhilarating array of films as three captivating releases dropped for your entertainment this last weekend. From a thrilling superhero saga to a chilling folklore narrative and an intriguing mystery, there's something for every cinema fan to relish. Among the offerings were the Malayalam thriller 'Thalavan,' the Tamil sports drama 'PT Sir,' releasing in theaters and Prithviraj Sukumaran's highly awaited film 'Aadujeevitham,' which landed on OTT.
Thalavan (Malayalam, Theater)
Directed by Jis Joy, the Malayalam thriller features a stellar cast comprising Biju Menon, Asif Ali, Miya George, Anusree, Dileesh Pothan, and Kottayam Nazeer in pivotal roles. The film hit theaters on May 24, 2024, marking Jis Joy's fifth collaboration with Asif Ali and introducing Biju Menon to the team. In addition to the main cast, Miya George, Dileesh Pothan, and Shankar Ramakrishnan also play crucial roles. Thalavan delves into an investigation unfolding at a local police station, shedding light on the intricate hierarchy within the force, which poses challenges for many involved.
PT Sir (Tamil, Theater)
The sports comedy-drama directed by Karthik Venugopal and produced by Ishari K. Ganesh, stars Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi in the lead role, supported by Kashmira Pardeshi, Anikha Surendran, Ilavarasu, Pandiarajan, Thiagarajan, and Munishkanth. With Ishari K. Ganesh serving as the producer, the film was officially announced in November 2022 under the tentative title 'HHT7,' signifying Adhi's seventh lead role. Principal photography commenced the same month, predominantly in Chennai, and wrapped up by late-February 2024. The film features music composed by Hiphop Tamizha, cinematography by Madesh Manickam, and editing by Prasanna GK.
Aadujeevitham (Malayalam, Disney+ Hotstar)
Prithviraj Sukumaran's acclaimed survival drama, premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on May 26. Directed by Blessy, the film, also known as 'The Goat Life,' depicts the true story of Najeeb's fight for survival in a foreign land. The film has cemented its place as the fourth highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. In the broader spectrum of South Indian cinema, it ranks as the fourth highest-grossing film of the year. Furthermore, Aadujeevitham is recognised among the top-grossing Indian films of 2024.
Love Me (Telugu, Theater)
The latest horror-thriller features Vaishnavi Chaitanya and Ashish Velamkucha, in the lead roles. Supported by Simran Chaudhary, Rajeev Kanakala, and Ravi Krishna, the film, written and directed by Arun Bhimavarapu, was released with low-key buzz on May 25.
