The Kerala Story 2 Box Office Day 2: Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s controversial film The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond recorded a strong rise in collections on its second day at the box office. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Sunshine Pictures, the film features Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, Aishwarya Ojha, Sumit Gahlawat and Arjan Singh Aujla in key roles. After a slow opening on Friday, the film witnessed a sharp 520 per cent jump on Saturday.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film opened with Rs 75 lakh on Day 1. On Day 2, it earned Rs 4.65 crore, taking its total domestic collection to Rs 5.4 crore within two days. On Saturday, the film registered an overall Hindi occupancy of 12.20 per cent. Morning shows recorded 6.45 per cent occupancy, afternoon shows 11.88 per cent, evening shows 11.42 per cent, while night shows peaked at 19.05 per cent. In the Delhi-NCR region, the film had 806 shows with 10.25 per cent occupancy. Mumbai reported 770 shows, with a higher occupancy rate of 14.75 per cent.
However, the figures remain lower than the first instalment, The Kerala Story, which opened at Rs 8.03 crore and earned Rs 11 crore on its second day. Despite facing heavy criticism and political debate, the 2023 film went on to collect Rs 302 crore worldwide.
Before release, The Kerala Story 2 faced legal hurdles after a plea sought to stop its screening. The Kerala High Court later lifted the interim stay, allowing the film to release in theatres. Meanwhile, members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) protested against its screening in parts of Kerala, leading to reported cancellations in cities such as Kochi, Kozhikode and Kottayam.
