Sudipto Sen's directorial 'The Kerala Story' has been a topic of debate ever since its trailer was released. The movie is now successfully running in theatres and has already crossed Rs 60 crore at the box office within six days. Despite facing criticism, the movie has been tax-free in some states.
Take a look at in which states 'The Kerala Story' has been made tax-free and what it means for the audience.
'The Kerala Story' Tax-Free States:
1. Madhya Pradesh:
Madhya Pradesh was the first state to declare 'The Kerala Story' tax-free. "The Kerala Story is a film that has exposed the horrific truth of terrorism. It has been decided to make the film tax-free in Madhya Pradesh," Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted.
2. Uttar Pradesh:
After Madhya Pradesh, 'The Kerala Story' was made tax-free in Uttar Pradesh as well. The team of 'The Kerala Story' even met CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow and a special screening of the film was reportedly held for CM Yogi.
Meanwhile, the Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh said, "Making 'The Kerala Story' tax-free is a very good decision. I want the people of Uttar Pradesh to watch this film and understand how our sisters have suffered. We will also go and watch the film. The people in West Benegal will not accept the ban on this film."
3. Haryana:
Haryana has also made the movie tax-free in the state. On Wednesday, CM Manohar Lal declared 'The Kerala Story' tax-free and announced the news on his official Twitter page.

'Tax-Free' Film Status Meaning:
If a movie has been made tax-free, it does not mean that the tickets will be available for free. It means that the state has waived the levy of entertainment tax and the tickets will be available at a discount.
Meanwhile, 'The Kerala Story' has been involved in controversies. Recently, a crew member of 'The Kerala Story' received a threatening message from an unknown number. According to the Mumbai Police, Sudipto Sen informed police about the same and the message threatened the person not to step out alone from home.
