The Crime Branch Farrukhnagar police team solved a case involving a theft worth lakhs from a local Jain temple, arresting two thieves involved in the offence on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as 19-year-old Gaurav, a resident of Farrukhnagar, and 22-year-old Atish, a resident of Kanina in Mahendragarh district.
Police recovered the stolen items, which include an ashtadhatu (eight-metal alloy) idol, a donation box (danpatra), and four silver Merus. The motorcycle used in the incident was also recovered from their possession.
The theft took place at the Jain temple in Farrukhnagar on the intervening night of October 17-18. Following a complaint, a case was registered under the relevant sections at the Farrukhnagar police station. The Crime Branch team apprehended Gaurav and Atish during the subsequent investigation.
During police questioning, it was revealed that the accused, Atish, works as a daily wage labourer in Gurugram. The two had planned to wear women's clothing while committing the theft in an attempt to mislead the police. They later set fire to and burned the clothes.

Following the arrest, Gaurav has been remanded in police custody for one day by the court.
