Delhi Mayoral Elections Could Not Be Held
The election for the Mayor in the Delhi Municipal Corporation could not be held on April 26, due to the non-appointment of the presiding officer. Notably, the Lieutenant Governor appoints the presiding officer on the suggestion of the chief minister. This was not possible because the chief minister was in jail. For this reason, the term of Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi has been extended. According to the rules, this time a councillor from the Scheduled Caste (SC) has to become the mayor.
