Bengaluru Hebbal Flyover: Bengaluru motorists got a long-awaited relief on Monday as the new Hebbal flyover loop was opened to the public at 9 AM. The inauguration was carried out by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Hebbal Flyover: Direct Link Between Nagawara, KR Puram Mekhri Circle
The 700-metre loop, built at a cost of nearly Rs 80 crore, aims to improve traffic flow at one of the city’s busiest junctions. It provides a direct link between Nagawara, K.R. Puram and Mekhri Circle, offering a smoother route for commuters travelling towards Kempegowda International Airport and central Bengaluru. Officials estimate the loop could reduce congestion at Hebbal Junction by around 30 per cent.
The ramp will particularly help vehicles coming from K.R. Puram, including those from Manyata Tech Park, via Outer Ring Road, towards Mekhri Circle on Ballari Road. The previous loop was narrow and merged with the main flyover, causing frequent bottlenecks. While the new loop is expected to ease traffic on the flyover, some motorists anticipate congestion might shift to Mekhri Circle or further along Ballari Road.

Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar added a personal touch to the inauguration by riding his vintage Yezdi RoadKing motorcycle across the new ramp. In a social media post following the inauguration, he wrote, “Breezing through traffic at Hebbal Junction! A 700 metre ramp built at a cost of 80Cr in just 7 months, will reduce traffic congestion by 30 per cent and improve commute quality.” He added, “Also relived my college days by riding my old Yezdi RoadKing. Dear Bengalureans, we’re committed with deep passion, and we will deliver.”

Project Part Of Broader Bengaluru Traffic Strategy
The Hebbal Flyover Loop is part of a broader plan to decongest major junctions across Bengaluru and enhance traffic movement in key corridors connecting the airport, IT hubs, and northern suburbs. Bengaluru Traffic Police officials noted that the ramp’s completion had faced multiple delays. It was initially expected by November 2024, then postponed to January, May-June and finally August 2025.
