The Chandigarh administration has issued a press release stating that only two cab services, Ola and Uber, have been granted aggregator licences to operate in the city. The local administration in an advisory stated that people should book cabs with yellow commercial number plates through these two companies for their safety. The maximum fare rate for cabs is fixed at Rs 34.

The local administration has also cautioned the public not to book cabs through unregistered app-based aggregator companies like Blah-blah, Quick Ride Drive, Redbus and Rapido. These apps are not registered with the administration and are illegal. The administration has started taking action against the cabs running with white number plates and issuing challans for them.

According to the press release, locals should not travel in cabs and bikes with white number plates as they are not registered for commercial purposes. The administration has stated doing so is illegal and will result in strict legal action against both passengers and drivers.

The authorities have issued this advisory for the safety of the people using cab services as the registered commercial cabs are equipped with panic buttons that can be pressed in case of emergency. If a cab operator takes a wrong or longer route, the passenger can press the panic button and call the police helpline 112.

The administration has also requested the public to cooperate with them and report any overcharging or violation by cab operators and companies to the STA office on telephone number 0172-2700159 or email at sta18-chd@nic.in.
