Congress workers staged a protest near the office of Lok Sabha candidate Kanhaiya Kumar in Northeast Delhi, advocating for a local nominee to represent the constituency in the upcoming polls. The demonstration, held near the Maujpur metro station, voiced the demand for a candidate familiar with local issues and community concerns. This comes after Congress nominated Kanhaiya Kumar as their candidate for the Lok Sabha Polls.
Navdeep Sharma, a protester, expressed the group's desire for a candidate from the local community. He pointed out the importance of having someone who understands the issues and streets of the area and urged the party leadership to consider the sentiments of local workers Sharma highlighted concerns that an outsider candidate may neglect local politics.
"We want our own candidate or leader to fight otherwise, we should have a meeting so that we can express our feelings with the high command. We need a local candidate from among us; we don't want an outsider. Our dissatisfaction is not with anyone; we don't have any problem with anyone," Sharma told PTI.

Another protester highlighted the importance of candidates like Arvinder Singh Lovely and Sandeep Dikshit, who have a deep understanding of local problems. The demonstrators stressed that their demand is not against the Congress party but seeks representation dedicated to the community's welfare.
In response to the protest, a senior party leader downplayed the dissent, affirming Kanhaiya Kumar's popularity among locals and expressing confidence in converting the support into votes.
This protest follows the resignation of Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, who opposed the alliance with AAP, bringing internal factional conflicts within the party to light. Lovely's resignation letter criticised Congress for nominating candidates who are ‘total strangers’ to Delhi's issues and party policies.
