In a major relief for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumers, their gas connection would not be automatically terminated while applying for Piped Natural Gas (connection), so that they could revive it again when needed without going through a lengthy paperwork process for a new connection in Delhi.

According to new rules from the central and Delhi governments, such LPG connections would be paused, and the connection, security deposit, and all other details will remain safe.

Who will benefit from new rules?

The decision is likely to benefit privately employed professionals, employees with transferable jobs, students, people living on rent and small businesses.

At present, such consumers are wary of applying for PNG connection, fearing that their LPG connections would be terminated and upon relocation, they would have to go through all the pain of paperwork.

What's the process to revive LPG connection?

The government has detailed a process to get back the LPG connection. According to new guidelines, a consumer has to follow the process below:

  • Within 30 days of getting PNG installed, the consumer will have to apply for suspension of the old LPG connection
  • Upon applying, they will receive a transfer voucher
  • In case of shifting back to an area where PNG is not available, a consumer can get their old LPG connection immediately activated by simply showing this voucher
  • There will be no need to deposit a new security deposit or do lengthy paperwork

Clean fuel, public convenience

The government's move not only promotes clean fuel but also takes into account public convenience. PNG is safer, cheaper, and environmentally friendly. After the new rules, people won't have to choose between safety and convenience.
