Earthquake In Bihar:  A total of 53 people have died so far as Nepal-Tibel border region was hit by a massive earthquake in the early hours of Tuesday. Several districts of Bihar and West Bengal also experienced earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.1 on Richter scale. Apart from Bihar and West Bengal, Delhi-NCR also experienced the tremor for almost five seconds.

The earthquake took place around 6.38 am in several districts of Bihar, including Patna, Samastipur, Sitamarhi and Motahari. The centre of the earthquake was in Gokarneshwar, Nepal. The tremor was experienced for almost 5 seconds in these regions and was strong enough to force people to come out of their homes for safety. A total of 53 people died in the earthquake in several regions, reported Reuters, citing several sources.  

 The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers in Nepal-Tibet border. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 7.1 magnitude on Richter scale. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) on Tuesday morning confirmed that an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 hit 93 kn northeast of Lobuche near the Nepal-Tibet border. The USGS also stated that the earthquakes with magnitude of more than 7 can cause serious damages.

It stated that it can cause structural damage, including cracks in the foundational structure of the building and even have the capacity to completely collapse the building. Though several people of these regions got feared because of the earthquake, no major incidents were reported as of now.

Apart from Bihar, mild tremors were also experienced in several parts of West Bengal at around the same time. However, the tremor was more intensified in North Bengal in comparison to South Bengal. The earthquake were felt in five countries India, China, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, reported India TV.

There is a surge in incidents of earthquake in several countries of the world in recent times. While the tremors had a very big impact on Turkey, Italy also got badly affected by the earthquake in last two years. The earth is made up of several tectonic plates and the earthquake occurs when the plates collide while rotating.

These are the magnitude and its cause based on the magnitude:
0 to 1.9 Information is obtained from the seismograph
2 to 2.9 Negligible vibration is detected on the surface
3 to 3.9 Vibration can be felt in the homes
4 to 4.9 Things in the house can fall down
5 to 5.9 Heavy items can also move from their place
6 to 6.9 The building can experience crack in the base
7 to 7.9 Buildings collapse
8 to 8.9 Threat of tsunami
9 or more is the most severe destruction
