GIFT City Liquor Permit Rules: Even though Gujarat is a dry state, the government relaxed the laws that forbade alcohol use in the fintech metropolis, GIFT City. As a result, the state government has made an astounding Rs 94.19 lakh from the sale of alcohol.

The Gujarat government has approved more relaxations to the restriction of liquor permits on the GIFT City campus, marking a significant change in policy. With a new notification, the government has further loosened the regulations for companies and employees by amending the order that was issued on December 30, 2023.

GIFT City Liquor Permit Relaxation

According to the most recent modification made by the Gujarat government, workers and visitors of companies operating in GIFT City will now be allowed to drink alcohol under more relaxed guidelines. Regular and temporary permit holders are allowed to engage in "Group Permits" within the fintech city according to new liquor regulations for GIFT City.

Gujarat's Home Department removed certain provisions and introduced new ones that provide businesses and workers more authority over visitor permits and alcohol access in a notice dated April 15.

Employees in the GIFT City will no longer need to use the formerly required 'Recommending Officer' role; instead, they must submit Form A-1 directly to an authorised officer. The officer will issue a liquor access permission card after confirming the employee's data with the relevant company.

“The Authorized Officer shall send the approved Liquor Access Permit details to the Authorized Person(s) and Superintendent of Prohibition and Excise,” the notification said.

Additionally, using Form A-2, these staff members are able to suggest up to five guests at once; however, they are required to accompany the guests to the authorised wine and dine facilities. The holder of the liquor access permit can request a temporary permit for one or more visitors for a single day only.

The announcement further said that both temporary permit holders and those with liquor access permits are eligible to take part in the Group Permit event in GIFT City.
