Gujarat Weather: IMD Issues Orange Alert After Heavy Rain, Storms Hit Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar; Multiple Flights Diverted

Gujarat Weather: Storm and rain activity hit in parts of Gujarat on Monday night. In Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, normal life has been disrupted due to the severe storm and heavy rain. Bad weather, dust storms and strong winds have also severely affected air traffic. As many as 7 flights, which could not land at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad due to strong winds, have been forced to be diverted to Surat Airport on an immediate basis. On the other hand, hundreds of trees and electricity poles have fallen in several parts of Central Gujarat and North Gujarat, causing losses worth crores.

Panchmahal-Dahod In 'Red Zone'; Alert In Place For North Gujarat And Saurashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather alert for various parts of Gujarat. According to the near-term forecast given by IMD:

Red Zone (Extremely Heavy Rain): Panchmahal and Dahod districts have been placed under the 'Red Zone'. These areas are expected to receive extremely heavy rains with strong winds blowing at a speed of 50 to 60 kmph.

Orange Zone (Moderate to Heavy Rain): The entire North Gujarat region including Kutch, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Mehsana has been placed in the 'Orange Zone'. Moderate to heavy rain is likely here along with moderate wind and thunder.

Yellow Zone (Light Rain): A 'Yellow Zone' has been declared for the districts of Saurashtra Panth, due to which the region may receive normal to moderate rains along with light winds.

Ahmedabad Hit By Torrential Rain

The weather in Ahmedabad suddenly changed late on Monday evening. After the unbearable heat and humidity throughout the day, a sudden strong wind blew at night. After the first round of rain on Monday night, around 3:00 am on Tuesday morning, the sky suddenly darkened with dark clouds and torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Gandhinagar Hit By Storm

Like Ahmedabad, the capital Gandhinagar and its rural areas have also witnessed a major change in the weather. Rural areas including Kanpur and Vasna Chaudhary in Mansa taluka of Gandhinagar were lashed by torrential rains accompanied by thunder and strong winds early Tuesday morning.

On the other hand, Vadodara also witnessed violent conditions due to strong winds. As per IMD, strong winds will keep blowing in the state over the next 24 hours.
