Himachal Pradesh Train Update: In a bid to improve connectivity in the Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh, the Northern Railways will restart the narrow-gauge train operations in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra Valley from December 5, which is expected to bring relief to residents and travellers after a prolonged suspension.

Train services were suspended in Himachal Pradesh following heavy rain and landslides in the state in September this year. “It has been decided to operate narrow gauge trains in the Kangra Valley in the Jammu division of Northern Railway,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, said, quoted news agency PTI.

According to Singhal, these narrow-gauge trains will first operate from the Baijnath Paprola railway station to Kangra (two pairs) and Baijnath Paprola railway station to Joginder Nagar (one pair). “These trains were halted during heavy monsoon rains and landslides,” he said.

Following the successful completion of extensive repairs to previously damaged sections, Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar has officially approved the railway route to be reopened for public access.

This crucial resumption of services is anticipated to provide a significant boost to tourism in one of Himachal Pradesh's most picturesque areas. The heritage narrow-gauge railway, renowned for its scenic journey and historical charm, is a celebrated attraction whose return is expected to draw visitors back to the region.

Furthermore, the restored connectivity holds substantial benefits for residents. Many rely heavily on the daily railway service for essential transportation and commuting, and the restored link will greatly ease their travel and logistics.

To ensure a smooth transition, railway officials have issued an advisory urging all prospective passengers to carefully verify the current train timings and schedules before finalising their travel plans, as service frequencies and hours may be subject to adjustments during the initial weeks of renewed operation.
