However, the father of the victim said that now her daughter’s soul can rest in peace, Nirbhaya rape case victim’s mother Asha Devi salutes the police action and demand that no action should be taken against the Telangana Police over the encounter.
Here is ‘Who Said What’ about the encounter by Telangana Police:
Father of the woman veterinarian: It has been 10 days to the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police & govt for this. My daughter's soul must be at peace now.
Nirbhaya rape victim’s mother Asha Devi: I am extremely happy with this punishment. Police have done a great job & I demand that no action should be taken against the police personnel. I have been running from pillar to post for the last 7 years. I appeal to the justice system of this country and the government, that Nirbhaya's culprits must be hanged to death, at the earliest.
BJP MP Maneka Gandhi: Jo hua hai bohot bhayanak hua hai desh ke liye. You can't take law in your hands, they(accused) would've been hanged by Court anyhow. If you're going to shoot them before due process of law has been followed, then what's the point of having courts, law & police?
BSP Supremo Mayawati: Crimes against women are on the rise in Uttar Pradesh, but the state government is sleeping. Police here and also in Delhi should take inspiration from Hyderabad Police, but unfortunately, here criminals are treated as state guests, there is jungle raj in UP right now.
Rekha Sharma, National Commission for Women: As a common citizen I am feeling happy that this was the end we all wanted for them. But this end was supposed to be through the legal system. It should have happened through proper channels. We always demanded the death penalty for them, and here the police are the best judge, I don't know in what circumstances this happened.
Bollywood actress and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan: Der aaye, durust aaye...der aaye, bohot der aaye.
Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel: When a criminal tries to escape, police are left with no other option, it can be said that justice has been done.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal: The rape cases that have come to light of late, people are in anger whether it is Unnao or Hyderabad, so people are expressing happiness over the encounter. It is also something to be worried about, the way people have lost their faith in the criminal justice system. Together all the governments will have to take action on how to strengthen the criminal justice system.
Rabri Devi, RJD: What happened in Hyderabad will act as a deterrent against criminals surely, we welcome this. In Bihar as well, cases of crimes against women are increasing. The state Govt here is lax and doing nothing.
Delhi Commission For Women, Swati Maliwal: What will the police do if rapists try to escape. That is exactly why we are requesting the Centre to create a strong system in the country so that rapists who commit such heinous crimes should be given the death penalty after all kinds of court procedures. At least these men will no longer be living on taxpayer’s money the way Nirbhaya convicts have been doing for the past seven years.
Baba Ramdev: What police have done is very courageous and I must say that justice has been delivered. Legal questions over it are a different matter, but I am sure people of the country are at peace now.
Kanumuru Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, YSR Congress Party: They deserved to be shot dead. God has been kind that they were shot dead, this is a good lesson. They tried to run away&they were killed. No NGO should oppose it & if they do so, they are anti-national.
Kapil Mishra: Thank you Hyderabad Police. This is the way to deal with rapists. Hope the Police of other states will learn from you.
Rishi Kapoor: Bravo Telangana Police. My congratulations!
Indian Shuttler Saina Nehwal: Great work #hyderabadpolice ..we salute u.
South Film Star Allu Arjun: JUSTICE SERVED.
Karti Chidambaram: Rape is a heinous crime. It must be dealt with strictly under the provisions of law. While I hold no brief for the alleged perpetrators of this dastardly act, “encounter” killings are a blot to our system. While I understand the urge for instant justice, this is not the way.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor: Agree in principle. We need to know more, for instance, if the criminals were armed, the police may have been justified in opening fire preemptively. Until details emerge we should not rush to condemn. But extra-judicial killings are otherwise unacceptable in a society of laws.
